We hope everyone
has a relaxing Thanksgiving break and comes back ready for
lots of fun performances and events as the semester winds
down. Remember to check the Calendar
for performance times and addresses. It is up to date as
of today, and we will try to keep it as current as possible as
changes come up during the next month.
The wait is
over! Click on the link below to shop for LSE Vocal
Music items for you and all your family members! No shipping

Thank you for supporting our department!
It's that fun time of year when students
will be bringing paperwork home to be filled out and signed and
returned to school as soon as possible. Thank you for your
patience with this annoying but necessary process! All
forms have also been uploaded in case you need to print out your
own copies. Click on Paperwork
in the yellow grid above. The Choral
Handbook has also been updated and can be accessed through
the yellow grid.
Tomorrow night is our big end of year
concert, A Little Knight Music. Be sure to invite all
your loved ones to this wonderful end of year
celebration! Admission is free, though there will be an
opportunity for a free-will donation. The concert is at
Kimball Recital Hall on the UNL Campus and starts at
7:00PM. Below is posted rehearsal and call-time
information for all choirs.
(One note: Knight Sounds will be excused
until 12:10 so that they can have time for lunch.)
Mrs. Noonan and
Mr. Rickert are hard at work finishing up auditions and
getting information organized so that the list of
personnel for next year's choirs can be posted this Friday
at 3:15. In the meantime, please click here
to find out more information on list posting and how
decisions are made when placing students in the various
next year's groups are now posted online. Click
here to view them.
We are off to a good start for
third quarter. All of the choirs have started learning
new music, and we are also preparing students for upcoming
auditions for both the Spring Musical (Mary Poppins--see the
audition dates) and next year's choirs. Auditions
for next year will take place during classes and after
school starting late January to early February. In the
meantime, students can start to prepare on their own by
drilling some of the practice ear-training exercises
back to a new year of singing! In case you missed
the handout that has been sent home with students, there
is a Choral Kick-off this Thursday, August 20 in the LSE
Commons at 6:00 PM. Parents and guardians of
Southeast singers are invited to attend this meeting where
you will be introduced to various aspects of the LSE
choral music program.
In the meantime, students in all classes have been walked through our Choral Handbook, which contains a wealth of information that will be useful to students and their families. Students should be bringing home paperwork to be filled out and returned as soon as possible. Thank you for your help!
Also, dates have been entered into our Calendar for all performances and other important activities scheduled as of today. This calendar is updated throughout the year, so feel free to use it as a resource whenever you have questions about dates and locations of performances!

List of students chosen for next year's
choirs will be posted this Thursday, April 2, after
school. For more information, click here.
With the start
of second semester, we are already talking about auditions
for next year's groups. Auditions will begin on
Monday, February 2nd after school.
Students are being prepared for the audition process during
classes. If anyone would like extra practice on the
pitch memory and pitch ID part of the audition, there are
to the large number of students interested in choirs, it
generally takes several weeks to hear everyone, so decisions
will probably be announced sometime in March.
Also upcoming are auditions for our Spring Musical. Signs will be posted at school this week with details.
In the meantime, be sure to check out all of the wonderful pictures parents have been sharing of our holiday performances on the Booster Page.
Galleries have been updated with several pictures
from last school year and a few new ones from this
fall. Remember that pictures can always be posted
on our Facebook
Group and/or on the Booster
Page, or can be sent to me if you'd like
them added to the Photo
Galleries. Also, don't forget that our first
concerts are coming up fast: On Thursday, October
16th at 7:00 Singing Knights, Excalibur, Queen's Court,
and Bel Canto will perform in the Performing Arts
Center. On Wednesday, October 22 at 7:00 Knight
Sounds, Countesses and Noblemen, Ars Nova, and Court
Choir will perform in the Performing Arts Center. Hope
to see you all at both! Remember that all dates
for performances can be found at our Calendar.
All vocal music
students were given an information sheet to bring home about
an important parent meeting to be held next Thursday, August
21, at 7:00 PM in the LSE Commons. There will be a lot
of information covered in this meeting, including an
introduction to Southeast Vocal Music Department's
educational philosophy, information on Choral Music Letters,
student financial concerns, choir outfits, upcoming
auditions for various performing opportunities, travel
opportunities, and ways for parents to stay involved and
informed. This meeting is not required for students,
but we are asking that each family be represented by at
least one adult.
Students were also introduced to the Choral Handbook today. We are asking parents to review the Handbook along with their students. Then, please print out the last two pages of the document for signatures. These signed sheets are due to be turned in by Tuesday, August 26th.
Welcome back to
the 2012-2015 school year! Notice the new tab
above for All State Choir Info.
Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors can audition
for the NMEA All-State Choir, and can learn
more about the process by reading the linked
info. I'm also working on updating the
calendar for the new school year. Look for more
updates in the next couple of weeks!
Thank you to all
of the family and friends who came to A Little Knight Music
last night. It was a very successful concert, and it
was wonderful to have such a large, supportive audience!
There is one more Vocal Music event to cap off this school year, and that is our Choral Banquet. The Banquet will be held in the LSE Commons tomorrow evening (Thursday, May 15) at 6:00. This is always a fun event, in which awards and letters will be presented to vocal music students following a delicious pot luck dinner. Those families wishing to attend are asked to bring dishes according to their last names:
"A Little Knight
Music" is next Tuesday, May 13, at 7:00 PM at
Kimball Hall on the UNL Campus. Tickets are $5
for students and $7 for adults and will be
sold during lunches at school on Friday and Monday (NOT
on Tuesday, as we will all be at Kimball
rehearsing that day). New this year, each
family with a singing student is entitled to two free
tickets to the concert. These will be available at the
box office along with any additional tickets you may want to
purchase. The box office at Kimball will be open
before the concert starting at 6:00.
All choirs will rehearse at Kimball during the day on Tuesday. The schedule for rehearsals and times students are excused from other classes will be posted on the M111 door and can also be viewed here.
As we head into
the end of the school year, we are working hard to prepare
for our final concert, "A Little Knight Music". All
choirs will perform at this event, which will be held at
Kimball Hall on the UNL downtown campus on Tuesday, May 13
at 7:00 PM. All singers will need to arrive at the
concert site at 6PM for our only rehearsal for the
finale. Since we do have to pay for the use of the
performing site, there is a charge for this concert.
Tickets will be sold during the week prior to the concert
and at the door. Look for more information next week
from your student.
Auditions for solos for this year's concert finale will be held after school on Monday, May 5. Singers can practice on their own by viewing the music here. If you are interested in a solo and are unable to audition at the scheduled time, you must arrange for an alternate time with Mrs. Noonan or Mrs. Moore before Monday. It's going to be a great concert!
The lists for next year's choirs is now
online. Click here to
see who has been placed in each group. Please know that
every student has been thoughtfully considered and placed in the
choir that we believe will best promote his or her musical
growth. We are excited about all of our choirs for next
year, and expect that anyone placed in any choir is going to
have a great experience! If you have any questions about
your placement, Mrs. Moore and Mrs. Noonan are happy to discuss
them with you, but please wait until next week at school to set
up a conference. Thank you!
After many weeks
of auditioning and deliberation, the lists of students chosen
for next year's choirs will be posted tomorrow, Friday 28 at
about 3:15 both here and in the office window. Please
read the information here
about what to expect when the lists are posted.
Welcome back to
second semester! Our students are hard at work already
on new music, and we are getting off to a fast start.
For planning purposes: auditions for next year's groups are coming up quickly. Students will be asked to sing a solo (appropriate songs for each level of audition have been discussed in classes) and demonstrate certain skills with sight reading and pitch recognition. In case students would like some practice with the pitch memory and pitch identification portions of the audition, I have uploaded some examples here. "trebleid" and "treblemem" are examples in the female and unchanged voice range, and "bassid" and "bassmem" are examples in the male range.
