I hope you are all enjoying your holiday break, and that you are ready for lots more great music making next semester.  Don't forget that musical auditions are coming up next week!  See our Facebook page for more information about auditions.
The reason I am updating during the break is that we have entered a new month, which means we have a new group of featured students on our Meet a Knight page!  You're definitely going to want to meet these students:  Victoria Shum, Alex Wooten, Angela Young, and Ian Appleget.

Enjoy the rest of the break!

December performing season is upon us, and that means students will be busy little musicians for the next few weeks!  All performances and related information has been given to classes, and are also accurate as of today on the calendar In the meantime, we have a new group of featured students for December!  Go to the Meet a Knight page to learn more about Willow Lessman, Miranda Cannon, Bryan Soderquist, and Max Green.  I think you'll agree that this is a pretty awesome group of people.

The year is going great, and our first two concerts have gone exceptionally well.  We are starting to gear up for our Holiday Season performances, especially for the Madrigal Dinner and Holiday Concert, coming up on December 12 at Sheridan Lutheran Church.  More information about our December performance schedule will be available on our Calendar starting around the Thanksgiving break.  In the meantime, be sure to check out our Facebook page for announcements, reminders, and other news.
While you're here, you can also enjoy another special treat, a feature that we've brought back to lsechoir.org due to popular demand.  Meet a Knight is back!  On that page, we will highlight a different student from each grade level every month, starting with November's Students of the Month, Matt Eschliman, Ressa Penland, Christian Jungck, and Chloe Glenn.  We have some great students with interesting things to say, and this is a great way to get to know a bit more about them!

Welcome back to school, LSE singers! The first full day of school is over and we are all so excited about this year's choirs!  I have finished adding this year's performance dates to the Calendar.  So far it is just the dates from the performing arts calendar, so expect to see lots more added throughout the year!

First up is our Vocal Music Booster Dessert Night next Thursday, August 25 in LSE room M111.  All parents of vocal music students are invited to attend to learn more about our Booster organization, which is vital to the operation of our department. Please bring a dessert to share with others.  This event is mainly for parents, but students are welcome to come and try some desserts.

The lists for next year's groups have been posted, and can be viewed here.  Please take a moment to read the information sheet about list posting.  Teachers will be happy to conference with students about their placement when we return from Spring Break.  Enjoy the time off, and see you third quarter!

Now that the holidays are over, we're back at school and getting ready for auditions for next year's groups.  Students have been learning about the audition process during classes this week, and auditions will begin next week and last at least through finals.  When we come back from semester break, auditions for this year's musical will be held.  There will be more information about that later once the title of the show and audition times are officially announced.
If you haven't had a chance to check out our Facebook Page, now would be a good time to go, as there are lots of pictures from December's performances recently posted.  You do not need to have a Facebook account to view our group page and its content.

December performance season is ramping up, with lots of opportunites for all of our choirs to get in front of audiences.  All of the performance dates I know of so far are now on our Calendar, and I will continue to update things as changes and additions are made.  Be sure to check often for updates, and you are welcome to drop someone on the music staff an email if you have any questions about the schedule.  Most importantly, be sure to remember this year's Madrigal Dinner (including a melodrama!) and Holiday Concert at Sheridan Lutheran Church on Monday, December 20.  This is always a great evening of entertainment and fellowship!
In the meantime, I encourage you to check out our group on Facebook.  Since it's easier to put quick updates on Facebook, you may be able to find more current information there than on this website.  You do not need to be a member of Facebook to view our page and see what's going on there.

Our first performances are fast approaching.  On October 2, Bel Canto will be traveling to Kansas City to perform at the KC Renaissance Festival.  On Tuesday, October 5, they will join Queen's Court, Excalibur and Singing Knights for our first school concert, at 7:00 in the LSE Commons.  After the concert, please join us for a choral boosters pie fundraiser. Pie can be purchased for $2 a slice immediately following the concert in the commons area. All proceeds go to the choral boosters fund used to support Southeast choral groups.
Choral booster membership forms will be available--sign up and help support our students and teachers! Your $25 will help purchase sheet music, pay concert expenses, and fund the end of the year choral banquet..to name a few.
Outfits for Singing Knights, Excalibur, and Queen's Court
should be coming home with students, along with outfit descriptions, financial statements, and October 5th concert details.  These were all given to students today in class, so please be on the lookout.  Students should try on outfits as early as possible so that adjustments or exchanges can be made before the concert.

Beginning-of-year paperwork was sent home with students today.  Each student was given a packet of information, some of which must be signed and returned by next Friday, September 3.  All of these forms and information sheets are also available for view and download on our Forms and Info page.  In case you are overwhelmed by the amount of paper you need to get through, here's an easy checklist of what needs to be turned in next week:  (1)The bottom of the second page of the "Choral Music Expectations and Grading" sheet needs to be signed by both parent and student.  (2)Pages 3 and 4 of "Parents' Consent Record For Participation in Activities" need to be filled out completely.  (3)The "Parent/Guardian Permission for Field Trips" form must be filled out and signed.  If you are giving your student permission to drive a car to performances, a copy of the proof of insurance card for that car must also be included.  Hope this helps!
It's been a great start to our school year, and we are all excited about this year's groups and everything we expect to accomplish this year!

Monday, August 23, 2010

I have made a few changes to this website to make it more easily updated.  You may notice that the "email updates" feature is gone now.  Instead, I invite everyone to join our group on Facebook, where I will post announcements that have been made in classes and notify group members of website updates, upcoming events, and other information that may not otherwise get to everyone who needs it.  I'm also hoping that students will post about news and events that they would like the rest of the department to know about (such as upcoming studio recitals, etc.).  Pictures can be posted to the group, or can still be sent to me for posting on this site.
Within the next week, students will be coming home with paperwork to be read, signed, and brought back to school.  This year, I will try to keep printable copies of most of these and other forms on our Forms and Info page, so that families can easily access them without having to wait for them to find their way home.  We will still give each student one copy of each form, but, if they are lost, we will ask families to print subsequent copies from the website if possible. (Note: the forms available as of today are still from last year and may be updated for this year, so please wait until the new information is available before trying to print.  I will post here when forms are ready for download.  Thanks!)
Don't forget the Choral Boosters dessert Kickoff tomorrow at 7:00!

Thursday, August 19, 2010

Welcome back to LSE for another great year of singing! We've gotten through our first full day of school and all students seem to be ready to make some first-rate beautiful music!

Look to this site for more updates over the next few weeks. Major performance and festival dates have been added to our calendar, and there will be more announcements as we get things rolling. In the meantime, don't forget to come celebrate the beginning of the year at the LSE Choral Booster Kickoff on Tuesday, August 24 at 7:00 PM in Room M111.
